A power station with around 4,000 watts of output and roughly 4 kWh of storage sounds like it should be able to heat a room through a winter outage. The EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 can certainly run a space heater, and for longer than smaller stations can. But even at this size, resistive heating burns through stored energy fast. This article works out how long the Delta Pro 3 can really keep a room warm, compares that with using the same energy to run a gas furnace blower, and lays out a winter plan that gets the most warmth from each kilowatt-hour. Confirm current specifications with EcoFlow before planning around any estimate.

Space heater runtime on the Delta Pro 3

Assuming roughly 3,400 to 3,700 Wh usable:

Heating approach Average draw Est. runtime per charge What it achieves
1,500 W heater on high, continuous ~1,500 W ~2.3–2.5 hours Warms a closed room quickly
Heater on low, continuous ~750–900 W ~4–4.9 hours Slows heat loss in a small room
Thermostat cycling on low (about 50%) ~400–450 W ~7.5–9 hours Holds a small insulated room near a set temperature
Two heaters on high ~3,000 W ~1.1–1.2 hours Short burst for two rooms
Electric blankets for two people ~100–200 W ~17–37 hours Warm sleepers in a cold room

A 1,500 watt heater produces about 5,100 BTU per hour. That is enough to hold a small, closed bedroom at a tolerable temperature, not enough to heat a house.

The better target: your gas furnace

If your home has a natural gas or propane furnace, the heat source still works during an outage; what stops is the electricity for the blower motor, igniter and controls. Those typically draw roughly 300 to 800 watts while running, and the furnace cycles on and off. Averaged over an hour on a cold night, a furnace might use somewhere around 200 to 500 watts of electricity while delivering tens of thousands of BTU of heat. On the Delta Pro 3, that could mean roughly 7 to 17 hours of whole-home gas heat per charge, dramatically more comfort than any space heater.

How to connect a furnace safely

Furnaces are usually hardwired, so you cannot just plug them in. Options include a furnace-specific transfer switch with an inlet, a manual transfer switch covering the furnace circuit, or EcoFlow’s home backup integration products for the Delta Pro line. All require installation by a licensed electrician. Never backfeed power through an outlet. Also confirm that your furnace’s electronics are compatible with the station’s output; most modern furnaces are fine with a pure sine wave inverter.

A winter outage plan built around the Delta Pro 3

  1. Priority one: furnace blower and controls, if you have gas or propane heat, via a proper transfer connection.
  2. Priority two: refrigerator and freezer, which also benefit from a cold house.
  3. Priority three: electric blankets at night instead of a space heater.
  4. Space heater only as a short booster, on low, in a closed room for an hour or so before bed.
  5. Recharge daily with whatever sun you get, or with a generator outdoors.

Winter charging realities

Solar harvest in winter may be a third to half of summer output, and snow on panels drops it to near zero until cleared. The Delta Pro 3 should be kept indoors during cold weather; lithium batteries should not be charged below freezing unless the unit specifically supports it. If you use a generator for recharging, run it outdoors at least 20 feet from the house with exhaust pointed away from openings. Snowdrifts can block exhaust and air intakes, so keep the area cleared. Never run a generator in a garage, porch or shed.

Space heater safety still applies

  • Plug heaters directly into the station’s outlets, not into power strips.
  • Choose heaters with tip-over and overheat protection.
  • Keep 3 feet of clearance from bedding, curtains and furniture.
  • Do not run heaters unattended or while sleeping.
  • Never use grills, camp stoves, gas ovens or outdoor propane heaters indoors. Carbon monoxide deaths spike during winter outages.

FAQ

Can the Delta Pro 3 run a 240 V electric heater?

EcoFlow lists 240 V output on the Delta Pro 3, so some 240 V heaters within its continuous rating may run. A 240 V baseboard or wall heater drawing several thousand watts would drain the battery in about an hour or less. It is rarely a good use of stored energy.

Is a heat pump a better option than a space heater on battery?

Heat pumps, including ductless mini-splits, can deliver two to three times more heat per watt than resistive heaters in mild cold. Running one requires an appropriate connection and depends on the unit’s startup and running draw; consult an electrician and HVAC professional.

Bottom line

The Delta Pro 3 can run a 1,500 watt space heater for about two and a half hours on high, or much longer on low with thermostat cycling. Far better value comes from powering a gas furnace’s blower and controls through a professionally installed connection, which can deliver whole-home heat for many hours per charge. Use electric blankets overnight, keep space heaters as short boosters, and never bring fuel-burning heat indoors.
